 FRENCH REVOLUTION

1.     Who was Fredric Sorrieu ?

Fredric Sorrieu was a French artists in 1848 he prepared as series of four print visualizing his dream of a world made up of “democratic and Social Republic as he called them. He dreamt in shattering the absolutists institutions. In Sorrieu’s dream the people of the world are grouped a distinct nations identified through their flags and national costume.

2.     Aim of French Revolution:

French Revolutionaries introduced various measures and practices that could create a sense of collective identity amongst the French people.

3.     How did they create a collective identity?

a. The idea of the fatherland and the citizen emphasized the notion of a united community enjoying equal rights under a constitution.

b. A new French flag the tri-colour was chosen to replace the former royal standard.

c. The estates general was detected by the body of a active citizen and renamed the national assembly.

d. New hyms were composed oaths taken and martyrs commemorated all in the name of nation.

e. A centralized administrative system was put in place and it formulated uniform laws for all citizens within its territory 

f. Regional dialects were discouraged and French became the common language of the nation.

The Revolution further declared that it was the mission and the destiny of the French nation to help people of Europe to become nations.

4.     Changes in Political and constitutional scenario after French revolution.

The political and constitutional changes that came in the wake of French Revolution led to the transfer of sovereignty from the monarchy to a body of French citizens.
